ABOUT US

The Umiam Sailing Club is a society formed to foster yachting and watersports enthusiasm among the youth in Meghalaya. Its mission includes providing training for competitive sailing racing and adventure sailing.

Established on March 15, 2023, the club operates under the Meghalaya Societies Registration Act, XII of 1983. The registered office is situated at the premises of The Meghalayan Age Limited, Lower Lachaumiere, Shillong – 793001, Meghalaya.

Objectives

To make policies for setting standards for safe water sports in Meghalaya and provide all possible measures for safe water sports in general and sailing in particular.
To align its activities with the Yachting Association of India and national sports code.
To procure sailing boats, yachts, sailing equipment, gear, and allied accessories etc., which shall be of high-quality meeting the class legal norms/standard equipment certifications and should meet the specifications as shall be set by the members of the society.
To aid, assist, initiate, promote, expedite, and accelerate the development of sailing facilities in urban as well as rural areas of the state, and across the country whenever required.
To identify the talent pool & provide training to sailors from Meghalaya and across the country.
To enable its sailors members to participate in regattas across the country and in the world, as found suitable from time to time.
To conduct training camps and regattas in the state and across the country.
To set up a system of management of its platform for the disbursement of information to the different stakeholders regarding sailing as a sport.
To set up a system of management of finances collected from water sports, sailing or grants -in-aid, etc. and to use the above to make payments to operators/vendors and training the captains, and technical members apart from others and to engage such organisations /agencies for functioning/ management of activities to the extent required to achieve the objectives.
To do such other activities which are in compliance with the above objectives of the society.

PREVIOUS EVENTS

NORTH EAST REGATTA 2023

The Umiam Sailing Club organised the North East Regatta 2023 at the Water Sports Complex, OLR, Umiam Lake. Commencing on the 29th of April 2023, this event witnessed sailors from across the country fiercely competing to secure victory. The culmination of the regatta occurred on May 2, 2023, marked by a closing ceremony where participants were honored with a generous cash prize, acknowledging their well-deserved triumphs. The regatta featured eight categories of races, accommodating sailors across various age groups and genders.

As part of the inaugural festivities, a live music session was incorporated, showcasing local talents alongside national icon Twin Strings (hailing from New Delhi) and international Korean pop sensation Kim Woojin. This musical extravaganza spanned the entire duration of the event, ensuring both participants and the audience were thoroughly entertained.
